Neurosurgical department №1 (pediatric) is the leading pediatric department in Russia.

Neurosurgical department №2 (cerebrovascular) is one of the leaders in Russia for treating patients with CNS vascular pathologies, performing the whole range of high-tech neurosurgical operations for this specialization. Professor Sufianov carries out the most complex surgeries.
Neurosurgical Department № 3 – vertebrology – the most modern equipment is used in this department. All spinal surgeries are performed using intraoperative CT, neuronavigation, neurophysiological control. This allows us to significantly improve the accuracy of fixing systems, to perform intraoperative control of decompression of spinal cord and its roots so patients could return to normal life as soon as possible.
Key priority of the Neurosurgical department №4 (neurooncology) is surgical treatment of brain tumors. Professor A.A. Sufianov carries out the most complex operations personally.
In the department of neurooncology, tumors of the following localizations are treated:
– Brain hemispheres;
– Ventricular system (lateral, third and fourth ventricles);
– Cerebellum;
– Cerebral meninges, including skull base meningiomas;
– Brainstem, cranial nerves;
– Cranio-vertebral junction;
– Pituitary, pineal gland;
– Bones of skullcap and skull base;
– Maxillofacial area spreading into cranial cavity.
The department conducts microneurosurgical treatment of brain tumors using the most advanced microscopes Carl Zeiss, Leica, Pentero 900, Zoring ultrasonic aspiration systems and high-frequency electrical equipment Aesculap, Stryker, Medtronic. Advanced methods of intraoperative fluoroscopy and angiography are successfully applied. The method of intraoperative photodynamic therapy in combination with surgical removal of malignant brain tumors is also used. The PDT method allows us to increase damage degree to residual tumor clones, which contributes to increasing the effectiveness of surgical treatment, extending the relapse-free period. The use of modern neuronavigation system Stealth Station, Brain Lab reduces the duration of surgery and significantly increases the radicality of surgical treatment. Neuronavigation set with SonoWand intraoperative dynamic ultrasound monitoring is also used. To control surgical radicality of surgical intervention we use ultrasound system Flex Focus 800 intraoperatively, which allows us to determine extent of the removed and residual part of the tumor, so tumor excision is performed under both visual and ultrasound control.
A significant part of surgical interventions comprises the use of unique endoscopic techniques, which are characterized as minimally invasive, atraumatic and highly efficient. We conduct endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal surgeries for underlying chiasma-sellar region tumors, mainly for pituitary adenomas. We perform endoscopic removal of ventricular tumors, endoscopic shunt operations.
A unique intraoperative CT diagnostics for brain tumors has been launched – a hybrid CT operating room to control tumor removal during surgery more precisely.
Intraoperative functional diagnostics (cranial nerves monitoring, motor area of the brain) provided a means to minimize the risk of postoperative neurological disorders.
Intraoperative fluorescent diagnostics of malignant tumors offer means to determine the boundaries of the tumor spread with maximum accuracy, achieving radical removal with preservation of functionally significant areas of the brain.
For the first time in the Russian Federation, a functional neurosurgery department (№ 5) has been established at the premises of the Federal Center for Neurosurgery, the main objective of which is to improve patient’s quality of life. Types of surgical interventions conducted in this department:
